The leaders guide to managing difficult employees
21-Dec-2011This is a response by Joseph D'Souza to a LinkedIn discussion thread with the above subject.
This discussion is
such a truth in the corporate environment. As a former corporate
professional now practising as an executive coach, I can see a little
bit of both sides. It is also true that people never leave their
employer company, rather they leave their manager. In other words, they
leave a failed relationship - or are fired because of it.
I also believe that the topic of this discussion thread is more than just an HR task. All people included have a role.
As I say in my LinkedIn profile: I contend that there is no such thing
as 'Business' or 'Organization' or 'Corporation'! There are only PEOPLE
having meaningful CONVERSATIONS with each other. Whether it is manager
to employee, professional to client, business to business - nothing
eventuates without a conversation. Good conversations become better when
relationships are respected and nurtured. Therefore tapping the
individual's potential first, paves the way for valuing enhanced human
being contribution.
To this end, my focus is on the individual. I have created a True North
template based on some essential elements of the human being (using
profiling instruments). It is amazing how the conversation changes
between manager to direct report and between teams. People are even
displaying and sharing. I see very real change in conversations,
expectations, and performance. I will be happy to send anyone interested
a copy of the template. Just email me at: joseph@questunique.com.au.
